MLMS announces Andrew Roughan as new Chair
02 November, LONDON – My Life My Say, the youth-led, non-partisan charity, has today announced that Andrew Roughan, Managing Director of innovation centre Plexal, will be the charity’s new Chair.
Andrew takes on the role of Chair from Dr Cécile Laval, who was the charity’s Chair for four years. Cécile has played a significant role in shaping My Life My Say and the charity is grateful for her contributions.
As Plexal’s Managing Director, Andrew convenes a community to solve the challenges that matter most to society – starting with cybersecurity, the future of mobility and inclusion. Before he joined Plexal he was the Chief Operating Officer at Here East, where he was responsible for helping Here East deliver on its legacy goals following the 2012 Olympic Games. Prior to this, Andrew was a senior leader in the telecoms and technology sectors, where he drove business transformation for enterprise clients and major cities.
As My Life My Say's Chair, Andrew will hold the Board and Executive Team to account for the charity’s mission and vision and will provide inclusive leadership to the Board of Trustees. Andrew will also support the Chief Executive and ensure that the Board functions as a unit. In partnership with Mete Coban MBE, chief executive of My Life My Say, Andrew will act as an ambassador and the public face of the charity.
Andrew Roughan, Chair of My Life My Say, said: “Since first getting involved with My Life My Say in 2018, I am continually inspired by the charity’s drive to bring the voice of young people to the democratic process. I look forward to helping Mete Coban and the team to increase the footprint of the charity and support the hugely important work they do to engage young people in politics.”
Mete Coban MBE, Chief Executive of My Life My Say, said: “I’d firstly like to say a massive thank you to Dr Cécile Laval for all of her hard work over the past four years; she has been a great asset to the charity. Secondly, I’m excited that Andrew Roughan will be joining our charity as the Chair and I have no doubt that he will excel in his role. Andrew is a passionate and astute character and he will be a great ambassador for the charity. I look forward to working with him further.”
My Life My Say is a non-partisan political charity that is renowned for creating spaces for dialogue across communities and generations through its signature Democracy Cafés and Quarantine Question Times, which have successfully engaged thousands of young people across the globe.
