Scope of the Role
We are looking for a proactive and politically engaged Advocacy Lead to lead the development and delivery of MLMS’ national advocacy campaigns. This role will focus on delivering two major programmes: Give An X (MLMS’ award-winning voter registration campaign) and V.16 (ensuring young voices are heard in an upcoming Elections Bill).
You will work closely with the Co-CEOs to shape campaign strategy, build sector-wide partnerships, coordinate press engagement, and ensure MLMS' advocacy work drives meaningful change and reaches underrepresented young people across the country.

The ideal candidate will join as soon as possible for a duration of 6-9 months.
Key Responsibilities

Lead the day-to-day management and execution of MLMS’ advocacy campaigns: Give An X and V.16.

Work with the Co-CEOs to co-develop campaign strategies, messaging, timelines, and impact targets.

Monitor political developments, policy windows, and opportunities to influence decision-makers.

Produce campaign materials, briefings, and messaging aligned with MLMS' values and strategic objectives.

Build and maintain partnerships with organisations across the charity sector, corporate partners, youth networks, and influencers to amplify campaign reach.

Engage MPs, councillors, civil society leaders, and community groups to support campaign objectives.

Represent MLMS at meetings, events, and policy roundtables where relevant.

Act as the main point of contact for press and media related to MLMS campaigns.

Draft press releases, statements, quotes, and media briefings.

Work with journalists, broadcast media, and digital creators to secure coverage and elevate MLMS’ message.

Coordinate with the Social Media Lead to build our network of influencers and ensure campaign messaging is consistent across platforms.

Track campaign outcomes, engagement metrics, and impact.

Prepare internal and external reports, including updates to funders and partners.

Ensure campaigns are delivered on time, on budget, and to a high standard.
Personal Specification
-
Strong written and verbal communication skills
-
Understanding of UK parliamentary system, building campaigns or advocating for marginalised communities.

A strong track record coordinating campaigns, advocacy projects, or community engagement
-
Demonstrated partnership-building abilities with a variety of stakeholders, including: brands, influencers, the arts and third sector.

Confident engaging with media, influencers, or public-facing audiences
-
Excellent judgement, problem-solving skills, and political awareness
-
Ability to think strategically while managing fast-paced delivery
-
Self-motivated, organised, and able to work within tight deadlines
-
Ability and willingness to travel for work

Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends
-
Experience working with marginalised or underrepresented communities

Experience working in a charity or youth-focused organisation
-
Digital campaigning skills (e.g., email journeys, social mobilisation, SEO)
-
Experience writing press releases or supporting media engagement

Expectations

To attend and contribute to team meetings.

To occasionally travel to meetings across the UK and Europe, which may require the need for an overnight stay.

To occasionally work unsociable hours, for example attending evening or weekend meetings or traveling outside of London.

To maintain an appropriate level of confidentiality at all times.

The nature of the post will require flexibility in undertaking the role.
