Hey everybody, welcome to March’s Squad Spotlight. I'm Eden, and today we are
catching up with fellow Squad Ambassador, Stefano Di Rico
Thank you so much, Stefano, for agreeing to be interviewed. So, how did you get
involved in the Squad?
I think it was the evening before the General Election, and I went to a Democracy
Café that MLMS was hosting in partnership with Headspace, as someone I've
worked with before had posted about it. I remember meeting Dan and Paris that
evening and being told about the Squad. The more I learnt about it, the more intrigued I was. So I signed up and haven't looked back since!
Love that, and it's probably been full circle at times, as I know you have hosted some
DeCafé’s as well. So, a hard question, but what has been your favourite memory throughout your squad journey so far?
I've loved so many moments with MLMS, but I think going to the Men's Health
Reception at 10 Downing Street must definitely be up there. Even better was that
I got to go with Paddy. The two of us started our campaigning journeys around the same time, and have worked on campaigns together for nearly four years now, so it was great to walk into Number 10 together that evening!
That’s definitely an amazing one for sure, and to do it with Paddy is even better!
So what do you give an X about?
When I was about fifteen years old, I counted how many people had come to me
for help with their mental health. I looked down, and the number was more than I
could count on two hands. That's when I realised that the issue was deeply systemic.
So, between my own experiences with mental illness when I was six and hearing the
stories of those around me, I know this is something I will always give an X about.
Such an amazing answer, and I think mental health is such an important topic.
So, who would be your dream Next Gen guest?
Not necessarily a guest, but I think a really cool panel would be the youngest
politician from each of the main political parties. I reckon it could spark an interesting discussion about the highs and lows of being a young person in politics across the spectrum.
I think that panel would be great, and it could become a reality, I think (Next
Gen 2026 👀). So, do you have any Advice for anyone wanting to join the squad or get involved in campaigning?
The Squad is a great way to meet like-minded individuals, whilst also developing
fundamental skills for campaigning and politics. As for campaigning itself, I think the best way is to think about what you really care (or Give an X) about and look at groups with which you can get involved. That way, you get to learn the lay of the land in a structured environment and meet so many people who are interested in the same things.
I totally agree with some great pieces of advice!
